Why us?
Goalkeeping parenting. The most important part of a young goalkeeper's mind is the parents. You play a crucial role in your child's success by how supportive and open you are to them. Goalkeeping is a hard position, constantly being scrutinized, by yourself and the last line. The last string before the knot unfolds. They need the support of a hidden army, and this is where you, as parents, come in.
The journey of a goalkeeper( with the help of you)!
Let’s talk journey. The narrative path your goalie will go down to fulfill the dream they have had since they were able to walk. What is the common denominator in all of these stories? Parent sacrifices. You as parents will sacrifice a LOT of your spare time for your child, whether that's driving to training, driving to games, the cost of kit and gloves over a fresh haircut, or new clothes. The sacrifices have to be made to help and support your child in the dream they wish to pursue. An example of this is Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother,” I would often work 7 days a week and go hungry just so I could afford to buy him his first pair of football boots.” Although this is an extreme sacrifice, this is just one of the things parents do to support their children. This is what you need to be open to…
Overcome the mental!
We have gone through the journey, the sacrifices, but what about the mental side of support? How do you support your child when their ready to throw the towel in on the hard work they have put into their journey? Confidence. You have to fill them with confidence; you are their one stable income of confidence and support. Yes, the manager may give some here and there, but what is going to be more beneficial, a maybe or a yes? The best support comes from a parent, whether that's just a well done or I'm proud of you, a little goes a long way.
